There is a wide choice of accommodation on some of the islands. You can book accommodation privately or through travel agencies who may have all inclusive hotel packages to bed and breakfast or self-catering. There are new hotels and resorts being built every year as Cape Verde becomes more popular as a tourist destination.
Large 5 star resorts, luxury hotels, those with swimming pools, daily activities, a choice of bars and restaurants, disco's, children's activities, all inclusive accommodation may be preferred by some while others may prefer the smaller or quieter hotels or an island attracting fewer sun holiday tourists.The main tourist island of Sal provides a greater choice, while Boa Vista will be developing and provide more resorts and hotels in the coming years.
Make sure you carry out some research before deciding which island you would prefer to visit. Travel agents do not always know much about the Cape Verde Islands and, travel companies may want to direct you to an island, hotel, resort which is in less in demand or that it is better for them to book for you. There are All Inclusive Hotels and Resorts on the main tourists islands of Sal and Boavista. We have more information here on Sal Accommodation. The Islands of Sao Vicente and Santiago also have a number of hotels used to accommodate travelers arriving on international flights. While there are more hotels being built there are still some smaller pensions, guest houses and hotels on the islands which you may prefer. Rental Agencies on the islands manage apartments on behalf of owners, so you may wish to contact agencies on a particular islands.
There are also apartments advertised online with Bookings.com, Owners Direct and others. There are property owners who rent privately and there are Rental Agencies operating on the busier islands. We have some links to a few online websites that advertise rental properties.
Weigh up the cost of flight only and the cost of booking accommodation, you may find it cheaper to book a package holiday during the weeks you wish to visit.
The main tourist area on the island is in Santa Maria. This is where you will find most of the hotels, although a number of hotels and resorts have now also been built along the west coast. You have some established family run hotels or others such as the RIU and Sol Melia. Note: You will also find that rental properties can be let in a number of the resorts in and around Santa Maria.
You may have seen some hotels advertised online or others that you have heard provide a good service and high standard however you will need to make enquiries as to which tour operators use the hotel you would prefer.The Djadsal Holiday Club Hotel has now being demolished and is in the process of being re-built by new investors. Fashion Beach also known as Budha Beach has rooms to rent. The Sal Hilton opened November 2017 and more hotels will open in coming years. We have more information here on Sal Accommodation
The main town of Sal Rei on the island of Boavista has some small pensions and hotels which you may prefer to stay at for a few days. The larger tourist hotels are situated outside of Sal Rei.
The Riu Karamboa is situated a few minutes away from the airport and approximately 10 minutes away from Sal Rei in a taxi.
The Royal Decameron and the Iberostar have been accommodating tourists for a number of years and these are about 15-20mins from Sal Rei. The most recent hotel built on Boavista is the Riu Touareg which is some 30mins in a taxi from Sal Rei. The cost of a taxi into and out of Sal Rei to the Touareg could cost you 60 euros return.
Alternatively you may wish to look at rental apartments which are advertised online on various websites.
Praia is where most of the business hotels are situated. There are some tourist hotels and resorts on the island outside of Praia, one is in Tarrafal.
Most of the hotels and some rental accommodation are in and around Vila do Maio.
Cape Verde's second capital is Mindelo, the cultural city, this is where many of the hotels are situated. Others may be scattered in a few other places. There are a number of popular residencials and B&B accommodation in Mindelo if looking for a less busy type of accommodation.
These are found within the Ponto do Sol, some villages, or like Pedracin Village on the side of a hill.
